The ‘SBR’ is a privately owned, primarily narrow gauge railway set in a country location to the South of Burton on Trent and to the East of Tamworth.
There are open days during the year for which an invitation must be requested from the SBR if you intend visiting.
The rule is strictly NO INVITE, NO ACCESS. After that, for the price of £10 pounds (2016 price) car parking is free and access to virtually all areas is permitted. Also included is the ability to ride on as many trains as are available (and there are many).
The ‘main line’ is known as the ‘Field Railway’ which comprises a lengthy run out and back from the purpose built station.
On the day that I was there, there were over a dozen loco’s in use with many trains either double headed or topped and tailed.
All in all an exceptional day out for the cost.
Should you get the chance to go, take it.
